Inspired by Boden

Ok, so you know the catalog, Mini Boden.  I got it in the mail yesterday and after looking at it for a few minutes, I decided I was going to make shirts for Porter, rather than drop 30 bucks on one shirt for him.  I bought a bunch of long sleeve shirts at Kohl's, Wal-Mart and Target at the end of the year for like 3 bucks and less.  So I set to work on the first shirt-actually a short-sleeved shirt, but I have plans to add striped sleeves to it for the winter, anyways, the first one was a double decker bus.  Porter loved it, said it looked like Bertie the Bus from Thomas the Train.

This is the Boden shirt that I ripped off!

I think it is the cutest shirt ever!


Next is the Porcupine shirt that I ripped off, it's a great fall shirt.  Plus, it was fun to make though a bitch to sew all the quills.  
This is the shirt I ran out and bought at Goodwill.  It was one of the buy one get one free shirts, so it cost about 1.25.  It is a large women's shirt from Cato, really super soft, thick, quality fabric and practically brand new.  I am going to use the sleeves to add long sleeves to short sleeve shirts for the winter.  Something fun and different, plus cheap and so cute!  But for now, this shirt was used for porcupine quills.

Here is the one from Mini Boden that I copied, I really love the colors, but I didn't have the right ones...oh well!

Isn't it the cutest?  I LOVE the colors!  Now that I am looking at it, I realize I forgot to do the ears and nose.  To be added later...I think I will make one of these for Paden, hopefully in these bright colors, because I love these colors and they seem perfect for a little boy!


So this is another shirt from Goodwill, it was also 1.25, because of the buy one get one free deal.  I love those deals!  Porter liked the motorcycle picture.  I liked the whole vintage look of the shirt all together.  

This is actually after I cut out the motorcycle because I am horrible at photo documenting all these things step by step.  Here is the finished product.  The yellow shirt is also from Goodwill, it's a Gymboree shirt, perfect condition, for 1.00!!

Porter loves it.  It honestly just looks ok in the picture.  It is pretty cute actually.

This is another Goodwill find, once again, just thought it was a cute vintage-y picture.  It's actually a woman's shirt, but who cares when you are cutting it up?  The white also was used for the eyes and whiskers on the porcupine.  Also, this shirt had to be pieced back together for this shot due to my lack of thought and preparation to show you my process.  But I think you are smart enough to put it together without me showing you the step by step process.  It is kinda fun being able to say I took this and made this.  So, here it is!

Just used wonder web on the back after I cut it out, ironed it on and stitched around the edges with the sewing machine.  I think it is pretty darn cute!  It's a 3 dollar shirt from Wal-Mart, with a 1 dollar shirt ironed on, so about 4 bucks to make!  Less if you consider the shirt has been and will be used for more shirts!


And the last shirt is an Incredibles shirt because it is the only superhero that Porter isn't afraid of.  Oops, I mean it's the only one he likes, which I should say they are the only ones he likes because it's a family of supers.  But anyways, I had wanted to cut out and iron on a superman insignia on a shirt but he said no way.  So, I had to scrap this together with old shirts mom gave me.  He loves it.

New stuff I wanted to show you!

So this blog entry is basically only for Anna, if you aren't her, then you won't care about this post what-so-ever.  I am probably over estimating the number of people that read our blog by at least 1 by saying that, but whatever.  So, here are the latest updates on things in the house!  First is the NEW CARPET that only took a month and one week to install!  Needless to say, we are thrilled and someone is constantly rolling around on the new floor!

This is right after it was installed and here are some pictures of  things in the living room I have done.

I saw these rosettes on a lamp somewhere, I wish I remember where, but they were a great idea!  I am sure you hate all the damask, but I love it!  Clay hasn't said a word about it, pretty sure he doesn't love the added touch!  Although it's quite possible that he honestly has not noticed.

This is above the tv armoire, I just put in new candles and moved things around.  

This is the former dining room, now the kids reading nook.  Having the carpet all through the living area makes it seem huge!  Plus, no pillar!  For some reason that made it seem bigger too.  When Paden moves into Porter's room, this brown armoire will go into the nursery which will become my sewing room.  It's full of sewing stuff.  

This is the entry way with the new hardwood floors!  I love the candelabra there one the table, I had it white originally but decided on black instead.  I love black.  Also, I did the curtains on the door which really help with the afternoon sun/heat.  I am trying to decide if I should cover the windows on the side of the door, it may be too much.  What do you think?  I hate the cut glass look, so I am so glad the big part of cut glass is covered! Eye sore.

This is a lovely cookie jar I found at the flea market, I saw something like it in Pottery Barn Kids for a ridiculous price and it was plastic.  However, I now realize that the plastic aspect isn't ridiculous for kids.  

Here is what I did with it, and I have no idea what to put in it, so it's just on a book shelf in the reading area.

This is the final picture, this is their room now.  Ready for Paden to move in when I am ready!  For now, Parkin is enjoying sleeping in here.  I think I am done with all the decorating, except maybe a table to go between their beds.  I saw one at the flea market that had an American flag painted on it, Porter would love it.  He has an obsession with American flags.

p.s.  I know that the first few lines of this post are highlighted in white and despite my best attempt, I can't fix that.  Go figure.
